Hi All
Our first weekend of Home Games was very successful
Our Vets kicked off our weekend on Friday Night under lights in front of a very good crowd against Boronia
The boys had their second huge win of the Year, and won comfortably 14.17.101 to Boronia 0.1.1
This sits our Vets comfortably on top of the Ladder
On Saturday, our 19s, Reserves and Seniors all hosted Lilydale at Quambee
The 19s kicked us off with an outstanding game of football.
This game was extremely close all day, and when Lilydale had the last kick of the day, they kicked truly and won by 5 points in a heart breaking loss for our young team (if only we had of kicked straight it may have been a different story)
Final Scores Saints 7.13. 55 defeated by Lilydale 9.6.60
The Reserves had a very strong side in for the 2nd week in a row, with a few of our Senior men returning via the Reserves.
The guys played a great brand of football all day and never looked like losing. They linked up extremely well and played an entertaining game of football winning 17.8.110 to Lilydale 6.10.46
Our Senior Men then took to the field without playing Lilydale for many years. We had a few out early, with Liam Taylor advising us during the week that he may miss the rest of the year with his knee, and Jayden Van Unen overseas, and Dylan Van Unen too sick to take his spot on the field, We also had Joel Nathan return to Richmond in the VFL
That being said, we had a strong but young side take the field, and we had 3 debutants in James Leach, Corey Church and Paddy Dunne, as well as Lachie O’Donnells first senior appearance in 2023
Lilydale got out of the blocks early and kicked a couple of majors to our 1 and at half time, our errand scoring saw us behind on the score board 1.4.10 to Lilydale 2.1.13
Robbie addressed the group at qtr time and the message was simple “stop panicking and take more time- you have it”. And nothing was truer, the lads come out with much more conviction for the rest of the game, but yet again our shots on goal weren’t converted to the rate we would expect, but we finally ran out convincing winners 8.15.63 to Lilydale 5.6.36
Locco had a terrific game and was clearly Best on Ground, whilst Fenton and Whelan dominated in the middle. Big Sauce played a terrific game, and Patto played his best game in the Seniors for quite some time- some great signs to give us some belief in the rest of the year
This week we venture off to Mooroolbark who are also 1 and 1 after 2 rounds, in what should be a terrific game of football if you can make it
Have a great week, and Go Saints!
Woots
