Again this week we had a very inexperienced team that took on Noble Park. Congratulations to our two Under 19’s players, Lachie Shield and Aiden Glassborow for being selected for their first senior games for North Ringwood. That makes 8 Under 19’s players that have played in the Seniors this year. Both Lachie and Aiden contributed well in very tough conditions. The conditions were appalling with strong winds, heavy rain, hail and freezing conditions. Thanks to those die-hard supporters that came to support our boys on such a day.
We started the first quarter very well with our intensity up and Mick Apeness kicking the first goal for the match at the 5 minute mark. We had numerous entries into the 50, but were unable to capitalize on this. Noble Park was able to too easily repel these attacks. After battling so hard we allowed Noble Park to kick 5 goals in the last half of the quarter. 3 of these goals came from Noble Park having loose players at the back of the pack in the goal square. As it turned out these early goals by Noble Park were the difference in the score at the end of the match.
After the first quarter the game became a real slog. It was always going to be difficult to recover from the score board pressure that Noble Park had put on us in the first quarter. We had a red hot go and actually out scored Noble in the last 3 quarters. Entries into the 50 were equal for both sides but scoring was tough. We unfortunately gifted Noble Park with 3 goals from undisciplined play by giving away 3, 25 meter penalties.
Mick Apeness was again a tower of strength on our forward line and also when asked to go into the ruck. Billy Schilling, Matt Kakaflikas and Heath Decker all played very strong games on the back line with multiple intercept marks. Billy was thrown into the forward line in the last quarter and was able to snag a good goal for us. Aaron Fenton, Jack Whelan, Darcy Harris and Nick Lowden all put on strong on-ball games. Julian Petracca also did a good job on tagging the dangerous Noble Park player, Kyle Martin.
Next week is the bye which will allow players to get over some niggling injuries. It is anticipated some senior players will return after the break which will strengthen our team and provide us a basis for good performances in the last 5 games. Enjoy the break.
Go Saints!

Following a very competitive effort against Noble Park earlier in the year, we took on Noble Park again for Round 13 in a game we thought we could be very competitive.
Jamie Roberts, Glenn Gordon and Brad Wilton (Rambo) pulled the boots on for us again this week to help with numbers Thanks again guys, was great having you in the team
The first half we were off. Not a heap, but we were enough to give our opposition a chance to be in control. We didn’t lack intensity, but made some poor decisions with disposal, both overusing with an extra handball or not releasing with deeper entries when we were able to. We went in at half time down by 40 points, but we felt like with some adjustments we could get ourselves right back in the contest. We discussed getting back to creating deep entries into our forward line and controlling what we could control, and not worries about things out of our control.
We went back out in the 3rd term, and we were on. We wanted the contest more and we able to hold possession of the footy. We then moved the footy forward quickly to dangerous spots forward. Even as the rain and hail rolled in, we were able to get ourselves into the contest. We managed to keep kick 3.2 in the 3rd to our opposition 1.4 and went in at 3 quarter time right back in the contest.
The last quarter was again a really good effort and contest by the boys, but losing Dan Wright Jnr at the end of the third, had us at 1 on the bench at the start of the quarter and although we remained competitive; we didn’t have the stream to really push and further reduce the deficit
Again, another performance where we were able to show in patches, we can match it with any opposition; it is just a matter of bringing all together for a full game. We go into the week off, knowing we have some really winnable games coming up in the next couple of weeks. As we have said the last couple of weeks…. Why not. Let’s train well over the next two weeks and be ready to roll against South Croydon on the 27th.
Go Saints.

We took on Noble Park in Round 13 at Home – This was always going to be a tough game, as we were down personnel.
It was a great day for the club and the Under 19’s with 4 of our boys getting the opportunity to play seniors – including debutants Lachlan Shield and Aiden Glassborow. That makes it now 9 of our Boys who have played senior footy this year which is an amazing effort.
We started the game with only 18 players on a wet and slippery day, the boys showed they were set to dig in and play some good hard footy from the start – Poves got the first 3 clearances for us looking in great touch before copping a sling tackle, which ruled him out at quarter time. We went in at quarter time only a goal down, but down to 17 players which was going to make the day even tougher. To the boys’ credit they continued to work harder, you wouldn’t have known we were a man down – Ireland was sensational across half back, giving us lots of drive and some hardness as well.
Matthews was giving as a good target at half forward kicking 2 nice goals, while Lyall was working hard as always around the contest giving the opposition nothing. Half time we were a couple of goals down but had put in a great effort in the quarter to stay in the contest.
Kane Church (17s) who was watching his brother play, offered to help us with numbers and come on and play at half-time which we really appreciated, and he instantly gave us some fresh legs, looking dangerous up forward kicking a goal in the 3rd too. We continued our great pressure and intensity in 3rd and considering we had no rotations off the ground the boys still didn’t drop off their work rate.
Fry had a super 4 quarter game with his field kicking and run off half back a real feature. Kizza was giving us first use in the ruck contest and competing really strong around the ground, Tobla was working hard to keep the ball alive in our forward line at every opportunity, Deckers was having his best game for us competing hard all day across half forward.
We ended up losing the game, but we wouldn’t have lost any fans we the resilience and effort we should all day

A winterly blast welcomed us at Gateway reserve, where Chirnside hosted us for Round 11.
Fair to say we’ve been hit hard by injuries, so this week we were glad to have four U18s girls come up to play. We are all grateful to the girls who helped us get a full side up. Carli came up for her second game and Emily Kane, Jess Reid and Teisha Dobinson all made their senior debut in trying conditions.
A very determined and strong bodied Chirnside Park made for a tough encounter in the first quarter, the game was congested and scrappy. The quarter time instruction was to get the ball to the outside quicker and this resulted in eleven scoring shots to nil in the second, unfortunately we could only manage one major for the quarter, but we were clearly in the ascendancy heading into half time.
Another dominant quarter in the third was finished early with the arrival of the now famous hailstorm, I’ve been involved in footy for 40 years and can’t remember another hail storm like that one, credit goes to those who were out there getting smashed in the hail, you all showed a resilience to continue playing despite the pain that will hold us in good stead in the future when we face new challenges.
All be it reluctantly the final quarter got under way and incredibly we had blue skies for some of it. The game freed up a little and we were able to score five goals to reward the effort that we put in all game.
Special mentions to a few, Elyse Stephens played the game of her life, forever borrowing in under the packs and taking on the tacklers with a ferocity no one has matched in our division yet, it was inspiring to witness. Another special mention to Kylie Rule who played her best game of the year, she ran hard for the ball with repeat efforts and long unrewarded runs into space but never gave up. Eventually we were able to get the ball on the outside and feed it to her and other outside runners Kizza and Rushy.
Courtney again showed me that she loves the contest and rarely gets beaten one on one. She copped a heavy tackle which clearly knocked the stuffing out of her but rebounded well from it.
Last of the special mentions goes to Sherie. Her strength on and off the field is why she was voted in to the leadership of the team and this week she capped off a great comeback with a couple of goals.
